Sometimes we all want something big, shiny and new. 5.2-inches to 5.7-inches smartphones are no news, and the focus is now shifting to bigger 6-inch screen handsets. This is when Gionee enters the game.

Design & Display

The device is quite large, so those with smaller hands might struggle to use with one hand. It measures 166.4 x 83.3 x 9.1 mm and weighs 226 grams. On the bottom, you can find a Home Button, which also acts as fingerprint sensor flanked between a recent menu and back buttons. Along the right side, there is a duo of volume control and power button, while on the left side there is a dual-SIM slot. There is a 3.5 headphone jack the top. At the bottom of the device, there is a micro USB port flanked by two speaker grilles. The phone comes with a 6.0-inch Full HD PS LCD panel with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels at a PPI of 367 pixels per inch and protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass. The display shows a bright, saturated picture with rich colours, good contrast, deep black colour and large viewing angles. So you can fully enjoy your videos and movies. The A1 Plus has a built-in smart eye protection mode, that delivers its user a comfortable reading and viewing experience while the handset is in low-light. Under direct sunlight, picture dims but still remains completely visible.


Hardware & Software

The Gionee A1Plus runs Android 7.0 Nougat with the custom Amigo UI on top and powered by a MediaTek Helio P25 processor. Equipped with 4G of RAM and 64GB internal memory along with a microSD card slot wish you expand up to 256GB. Note that the phone has a Hybrid SIM slot so you’ll have to choose between Dual SIM support and microSD expansion. The smartphone is capable to deliver an excellent day-to-day performance without lag, stutter or crashes, even heavy multitasking is not a problem. In addition to 4G LTE, other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS.


Gionee has fitted the A1 Plus with a respectable 13-megapixel rear shooter alongside a 5-megapixel lens that will allow you to readjust the focus on your shots after you take them. The second one is the 20-megapixel front camera with fixed focus, F2.0, 1/2.8 inches, 5P lens, selfie flash for enhanced selfies. The selfie camera does a decent job and it takes some well-detailed shots in the broad daylight.


One of the main features of the A1 Plus is its battery life. The phone is equipped with a 4550 mAh battery, which can power your phone for 2 days of moderate use. However, if you are concerned about your battery level, the manufacturer introduced different optimization modes to reduce the power consumption by turning off certain applications in the background. Fast charging feature is also available with the supplied 18W charger and takes 90 minutes to get your phone from 1% to 100%.
